Readings from mum..

The most Annoying words

'Anyway, you know, whether - it is what it is, at the end of the day.'
This is the most irritation sentence in the English language,
according to a poll in the United States lat month.

'Whatever' - or, as it is more commonly said, 'What-evvv-urhhhh' or 'wadeva' in Singapore - proved to be the most grating og the five phrases that were thrown up.

While l completely agree that these words and phrases all deserve to be eradicated from everyday speech, l must say l found the poll a bit wanting.

After all, my own mental list of annoying words, compiled over years of totally unplanned research, easily runs into the hundreds.

If l had to give a prize to one for hte (dis)honour of being the most annoying, it would go to 'anything'. Don't get me wrong, it is a perfectly acceptable word when the person who uses it really means 'anything'. Like, for instance, me, when l say 'l don't have anything to wear'.

But what some people don't know is that the word 'anything' is more commonly used as a trap. lndecisive people say it to lure you into a false sense of agreeability, and then they slowly kill you with frustration.

This is how it goes:
Me: ' What do you want to eat for dinner?'
lndecisive Person: 'Anything.'
M: 'Okay, Thai food?'
lP; 'Uh.....l don't really feel like Thai.'
M; 'Japanese then?'
lP: 'Np, l had japanese for lunch.'
M: 'How about French food?'
iindecisive Person, who by now is proving to be irritatingly decisive: 'Yuck, l hate French food.'
Me, on the verge of death by exasperation: 'Then what do you want to eat?'
lndecisive Person: 'Oh, anything, up to you.'

A friend of mine has developed a foolproof way to deal with this. Once his dinner partner says 'anything', he will insist on going to McDonald's and brook no further discussion. He doesn't mind eating the dinner in total frosty silence just to make his point.

Same nutty.
Always goes..

Me: Im going out, what do u wanna eat?
Nutty: Anything.

Reached at the food court.

Me: Can u tell me exactly what u wanna eat?
Nutty: Anything you like, you just buy. You know right, no fried fried chicken, but slight fried chicken is okay.. No spicy, no chilli. Rice, no noodle.

Funny right.. ANYTHING.

Sharing readings from mum who took the effort to type it all out..

Appreciate more, Depreciate Less

One of the more important things.
l have learnt from the school of life is to 'appreciate' more and 'depreciate' less.

This pushes me to constantly remind myself to build up rather than tear down,
especially when interacting with people around me - be they my children, colleagues, clients, acquaintances, or even strangers l am meeting for the first time.

There is nothing quite like a word of encouragement, a warm and personable smile, or an extended hand of friendship to perk up someone's day.

Over the years, l have learnt never to underestimate the power of such gestures.
They have proven to be more potent than prescibed medication when it comes to soothing a broken spirit. You may think of them as small gestures, but they can go a long way towards elevating self-esteem, to the extent of even saving a life.

So, by thinking positive and smiling, you not only help others, but also yourself.

Ralph Marston, author and publisher of The Daily Motivator, one of the Web's most popular and enduring sites for positive motivation and inspiration, wrote:
'Sit up straight. Lift up your head. Lift your eyes. Take a long, deep breath and smile. Though things may be far from perfect for you, act like it's a great day to be alive. Because it is.
Keep a smile on your face and in your voice.
Act like you would act if you were the most confident, successful, joyful person in your town. See the world around you for what it is, and know that it cannot bring you down. Live today as if it is the best day you could possibly imagine. And in doing that you make it so. lt also takes less effort to be cheerful than to be gloomy.'

The Washington Post reported that it takes 13 muscles to smile and 33 to frown.
Unless your sole aim in life is to burn more calories, it certainly makes a lot more sense to pucker up, spread those luscious lips, and show off to the workd your sparkling pearly whites.
There is a saying: 'Remember your yesterdays, dream your tomorrow, live your todays.'

After an incident few days back..
I probably learnt not to vent at your friends when you're angry.
You can always laugh at your mistakes, and learn from it!
And don't repeat the same mistakes again.

There's no point being pissed big time and bring the bad vibe around your friends.
First of all, they weren't responsible for your mistake!
And as friends, what can we do?!!
The whole world don't owe u anything.

Hell weird when your friends start acting up.
And you have no idea how to make em feel better..
They start this 'cold war' as though u got them into trouble.

Not everyone knows how to appreciate stuffs,
be it small or big, things people do for you.
When you lose it, you will eventually learnt.
Don't take forgranted that somebody has to always do things for you.
They don't have to, yet they still do it for you.
So, be thankful & APPRECIATE.
